ABOUT THE PROJECT

Intuition for
what comes next.

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more capable of producing new scientific results, the people guiding that work need a deeper feel for the systems they study. Visual Transportation Science is a place to build that intuition through motion.

01 / THE MOMENT

New results need
deeper intuition.

AI is becoming an increasingly powerful partner in scientific discovery. It may help produce results faster than we can absorb them. Guiding that work still calls for a grounded sense of how a system behaves: which questions are worth pursuing, what a surprising result means, and where a model’s assumptions may matter.

That sense is difficult to gain from a final answer alone. We need ways to watch mechanisms unfold, test our expectations, and see where they fail.

02 / THE MEDIUM

Transportation
moves in time.

Traffic waves travel, queues grow, routes shift, and passengers respond to one another. These are not static facts. Decades of transportation research have revealed striking patterns in that motion, making the field especially suited to animated explanation.

03 / THE PROJECT

Research,
made visible.

Each film selects an insight from transportation scholarship and builds an illustrative computational scene around it. Movement reveals the mechanism; a short guide and references connect the scene back to the underlying work.

The aim is to make the research easier to think with: a visual intuition that invites closer reading, sharper questions, and further exploration.
